Catalytic Reduction of NOx over MnOx/γ-alumina Prepared by Homogeneous Deposition Precipitation

The selective catalytic reduction of NOx using NH3 (NH3-SCR) is a highly efficient technology for NOx emissions control. Among the metal oxides, Manganese oxide is the most studied due to their low volatility (various types of loosely bound oxygen species). The aim of the present work is to develop the MnOx/γ-alumina nanocatalysts for NOx reduction. MnOx/γ-alumina nanocatalysts were prepared by homogeneous deposition precipitation (HDP) and were characterized by XRD, H2-TPR and TEM. According to XRD patterns, the original structure of γ-alumina is not destroyed during preparation of nanocatalysts and well-dispersed nanosized MnOx phases were formed on the γ-alumina structure. TEM confirms that the structure of γ-alumina does not change during preparation of nanocatalysts. The NH3-SCR activity of catalysts was measured in a fixed bed reactor. NO conversion significantly increases with increasing the Mn loading and shows a maximum at loading of 5 wt. %. A further increase in the Mn loading does not result in a further increase in NO conversion.
