Synthesis of Type A Zeolite from Iranian kaolinite

چکیده مقاله:
The synthesis of zeolite Lind Type A from kaolinite was done by a hydrothermal method. The kaolinite was converted to metakaolin in the furnace followed by implementing hydrothermal alkaline activation method to synthesis of LTA zeolite. It is important to select a kaolinite with proper features structure and chemical composition to formation of 4A zeolite with proper crystalline shape and chemical composition. Under appropriate situation, co-crystallization of sodalite and cancrinite during treatment of kaolinite in NaOH solutions decreased. Synthesized materials appeared stable thermodynamically under the experimental conditions. The obtained products have been characterized by X-ray diffraction and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The characterization results indicate formation of 4A zeolite from kaolinite clay in good agreement by previous reported results. In order to evaluate the ion exchange strength of synthesized 4A zeolite calcium exchange capacity method was used. The results indicated proper performance of synthesized zeolite from clay source compared to a synthesized zeolite.
