Voltammetry Study for Determination of Phenol by Using a New ZnFe2O4 Nanocomposite

Phenol is an organic hydroxyl compound that consists of benzene bearing a single hydroxyl substituent. Pure phenol is used in certain medical procedures and as an ingredient in numerous treatments and laboratory applications. Phenol vapor and liquid penetrate the skin with absorption efficiency approximately equal to the absorption efficiency by inhalation. In one case, death occurred within 30 minutes after skin contact. The voltammetry study of an electro analytical method for the determination of phenol by using electrode fabricated with ZnFe2O4 nanocomposite. In this study several parameters, such as ZnFe2O4 nanocomposite , ratio and pH, have been studied. The best results of cyclic voltammetry were achieved in 30% of Zn in nanocomposite and pH. The cyclic voltammogram showed an irreversible oxidation peak at 0.85 V which corresponded to the oxidation of phenol. Compared to common carbon paste electrode, the electrochemical response was greatly improved. Under the optimized conditions, the oxidation peak current of phenol showed linear dynamic range 5–200 μ mol L−1 with a detection limit of 3 μ mol L−1, using the SWV method.
