Industrial Waste Water Treatment of Zarand Coke Making With Nanosized Polyaluminium Chloride (PAC)

Industrial wastewater is caused by water consumption in industrial activities or from industrial sources and during various stages of production and always the most dangerous type of wastewater. Physical, chemical and biological methods are used to treat sewage and industrial waste water. PAC is a new concept of flocculant; its special properties are due to (poly alumina chloride). It is a polynuclear complex of polymerization of hydroaluminum ions with the general formula (Aln(OH)mCl(3n-m))x, that for PAC compound n=2 and m=3[1, 2]. In this study we prepared the nanosized of PAC by rapid sonication method in suitable conditions and characterized its structure by some spectroscopic methods like SEM, XRD, FT-IR, and used the new nanosized form of PAC for waste water treatment in the Zarand coke making. The experiments were designed in completely randomized design (CRD) in three replicates using ultrasonic test apparatus for coagulation-flocculation process. The parameters measured in this experiment are sample turbidity, coagulation dose, mixing and rate of time. The removal efficiency for PAC was 96.2%, 94.8%, and 95.7%, for COD was 70.7%, 63.2%, and 61.1% and for color removal was 82.1%, 78.1% and 80.7% respectively. Figure 1 shows the SEM images of bulk and nanosized PAC.
